Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's de facto leader and Nobel Peace Prize victor, broke her silence on the crisis on Tuesday, blaming terrorists for using "a huge iceberg of misinformation" to create strife "between different communities and with the aim of promoting the interest of the terrorists".

India on Thursday refused to sign a global declaration adopted at an worldwide conclave as it referred to the violence against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar's Rakhine state, PTI reported.

In the past, Myanmar's leader, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, has condemned attacks on Rohingya.

Myanmar does not consider the Rohingyas as citizens although they have lived in the country for generations.

On August 25, 2017, violence erupted again in northern Rakhine State after Rohingya militants attacked government forces. Routinely, the Rohingyas have crossed over into next-door Bangladesh, from where they have tricked into India where a few thousand lead a precarious existence.

Rohingya Muslims have long faced discrimination in the majority-Buddhist south-east Asian country.

Suu Kyi is under mounting global pressure to stop the alleged atrocities against the Rohingyas, who are even denied citizenship in Myanmar.

But more than 370,000 people have now signed a petition demanding the Nobel Committee withdraw the award, following increased violence against the mostly Muslim minority group in Burma's Rakhine province. In the words of one Rohingya refugee, "Vigilantes, soldiers and police surrounded our village".

Aung San Suu Kyi is coming under increasing pressure to intervene in the Rohingya crisis.

"She said that kind of fake information which was inflicted on the deputy prime minister was simply the tip of a huge iceberg of misinformation calculated to create a lot of problems between different countries and with the aim of promoting the interests of the terrorists", her office said.
