A pregnant teenage girl shot and killed her boyfriend of five years while recording a video for the couple's YouTube channel.

Prior to the stunt, Perez tweeted the video was risky and says it was all Ruiz's idea.

Ruiz died at the scene from a single gunshot wound as the couple's 3-year-old daughter reportedly looked on.

There aren't many more details about the stunt at this time, but Norman County Sheriff's Office reported on the scene around 6:30 p.m. on a call of a shooting.

She said: "They were in love". Still, she went through with the plan. "It shouldn't have happened at all".

Ms Perez has been charged with second-degree manslaughter.

She now faces charges of second degree manslaughter.

She was released from jail on Wednesday afternoon after posting $7,000 bail.

Monalisa Perez

According to local media, Perez shot Ruiz with a Desert Eagle handgun while he held a thick, hardback encyclopaedia against his chest, which was meant to stop the bullet.

Ruiz's aunt, Claudia Ruiz, told WDAY-TV that Ruiz had told her he wanted to do the stunt "because we want more viewers, we want to get famous".

But Ruiz had convinced her that the performance was safe, showing her a different book he had practiced with earlier that the bullet did not penetrate all the way through. The two cameras used to record the shooting were confiscated by police. Many times, aspiring YouTubers engage in unsafe and sometimes illegal activity to gain followers.

Pedro Ruiz, 22, always said he wanted a big family in his home in Halstad, Minnesota, according to his aunt, Claudia Ruiz. Ruiz held an encyclopedia to his chest as Perez shot him.

The couple's prank videos usually contained innocent tricks, such as Perez giving Ruiz a donut covered in baby powder.

The pair recently shared a video on YouTube titled "Doing Scary Stunts at the Fair Part 1". I said, don't do it, don't do it.

More than 100,000 people have viewed the video.
