Instagram has launched two machine-learning-powered tools to block abusive comments and spam.
The new spam filter is going to look for any obvious spam in comments and block it automatically from posts and live videos. You can also still report any offensive comments that make their way through the filter, manually delete specific comments, or completely disable commenting for specific posts. Instagram says that it will rollout the new comment filter in English first, but it will also arrive in other languages "over time".
"We believe that using machine learning to build tools to safeguard self-expression is an important step in fostering more inclusive, kinder communities", the post said.
Each of the technology giants has been working individually to prevent its platforms or services from being used to promote or spread extremist views.

What Instagram is using for both of these new tools is a system called DeepText, which is based on work developed by Facebook and Instagram. You'll still be given the option to turn it off from inside the app's settings, and Instagram still includes the ability to block custom words and phrases.
The next part is addressing spam comments - something that we've all seen in Instagram.
In addition, a new spam filter is getting a formal introduction today which is available in nine different languages. Users can activate this feature by triggering it in the comments section of the settings.
Similar to the way the company combated spam, Instagram also hired a team to determine whether comments are appropriate or not. "And I think what we have to do is figure out how to get into those gray areas and judge the performance of this algorithm over time to see if it actually improves things".
