Qualcomm pioneers the best smartphone processors and after making the most popular high end chip, the company has officially unveiled the Snapdragon 450 for entry level smartphones. If you're like us, you place a premium on camera performance when shopping a smartphone (those food pictures on social media don't snap themselves, after all). In addition, the Adreno 506 GPU provides 25 percent speed improvement to the Adreno 505 GPU found on the Snapdragon 435 SoC.

The Snapdragon 450 biggest highlights come in the form of an improved overall performance and battery life over its predecessor.

Connectivity. Qualcomm has shoved its own Snapdragon X9 LTE modem into the 450 platform, which uses 2x20MHz carrier aggregation for both uplink and downlink transfer (just like the older 435). It can support a max of 21-megapixel single camera.

The Snapdragon 450 chipset will run on the same Cortex A53 processor cores, which have been the hallmark of success for the current-gen 400-series' most-powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 435. It supports real-time Bokeh effect and featured with hybrid autofocus, 1080p video capture and 60fps playback. The Snapdragon 450 also includes support for Qualcomm Hexagon DSP, which is claimed to enable multimedia, camera, and sensor processing at greater performance and lower power than the previous generation.

The Snapdragon Wear 1200 is manufacturing now and begins shipping today, but one thing to note is that this platform is specifically meant for more "basic" wearables.

Consumers will start to see Snapdragon 450 devices on the shelves by the end of this year.

Qualcomm also announced the launch of the Snapdragon Wear 1200 processor for smart wearables at MWC Shanghai. The chip includes an LTE system-on-chip (SoC), power management integrated circuit and wireless transceiver, ultra-low power management operation, a global multimode M1/NB1/E-GPRS modem with support for 15 global RF bands that is pre-certified for major operators, plus the ability to add external sensor hubs. The size of the chip is 45 percent smaller (79mm) than the predecessor and it supports LTE Cat.

Connectivity gets a boost too. Features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Qualcomm's rapid charging technology might be included in some devices. Qualcomm has also integrated hardware security features to maintain high privacy and robust security in their architecture. Snapdragon Wear 1200 complements the existing Snapdragon Wear 2100 and Snapdragon Wear 1100 platforms, extending the proven Snapdragon Wear product family across the smart wearables segments.
