Who can get around the travel ban?

Who can get around the travel ban? Who can get around the travel ban?

The US Supreme Court upheld some portions of President Donald Trump's revised travel ban on Monday (June 26), setting the stage for arguments on the case in October.

The entire Court, even the four liberals, agreed to hear the Trump Administration's appeal of appellate-court rulings blocking its immigration travel ban, and the Justices allowed almost all of the 90-day ban to proceed in the meantime.

The test for prospective travelers under the Supreme Court's new decision is whether one has a "credible claim of bona fide relationship" with either an entity or person living in the U.S. - if you do, you can come to the USA; if you don't, you are banned for 90 days if you are from Libya, Syria, Iran, Somalia, Yemen and Sudan (and 120 days if you are a refugee). He has also said the ban would take effect within 72 hours of court approval.

The Trump administration said the travel ban was needed to allow time to develop screening procedures for visa applicants from the targeted countries.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions says the Justice Department looks forward to defending the travel ban when the Supreme Court hears arguments in the case in October.

"The implementation of the executive order will be done professionally, with clear and sufficient public notice, particularly to potentially affected travelers, and in co-ordination with partners in the travel industry", the department of homeland security said in a brief statement that struck the same themes as the one from the state department. He said his group has no idea how the administration plans to judge family relationships and a hard line could mean a significant number of Iranians will be kept out the country for the time being.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday it will hear the case of a suburban Denver baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple on faith-based grounds, in the latest religious freedom case to be considered before the nation's highest court. Fellow conservative Justice Clarence Thomas wrote a dissenting opinion in which he warned that requiring officials to differentiate between foreigners who have a connection to the United States and those who do not will prove unworkable. So how the court rules will have a lasting impact on the power wielded by a US president for years to come. A senior USA official familiar with the situation said the Trump administration has plans in place to relaunch the stalled ban and tourists will be among those kept out. The Supreme Court's decision also gave a green light to that study.

The troubled executive order went into litigation nearly as soon as it was issued January 27, just a week into the new president's term.

But Supreme Court justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel A. Alito Jr. and Neil M. Gorsuch dissented from part of the opinion regarding the decision and stated a full-fledged ban should be put into effect despite the fact whether people had a "bona fide relationship" in the US, as per the document. Citizens of six Muslim majority countries will not be allowed into the US unless they have a bonafide relationship with a person or entity in the country.

Federal courts said the travel ban violated federal immigration law and was discriminatory against Muslims in violation of the US Constitution.

Even though, parts of the ban are allowed to continue, like Darwish, Harrison is frustrated.

The wording of the Supreme Court ruling is likely to cause confusion amongst U.S. immigration officials, with many pondering how a "bona fide relationship" will be judged.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals later stayed both the six-country ban and cessation of the refugee program. Refugees "in transit" and already approved would have been able to travel to the United States under the executive order. But officials would struggle to translate the ruling into concrete policy implemented by thousands of consular officers and customs agents around the world, he said.
