Spence had been an Uber driver for six months and has prior drug-related convictions. Hayes said Spence rented a room and carried the unconscious woman, who was intoxicated, inside before sexually assaulting her.

Investigators released images of Spence and his vehicle, a 2015 silver four-door Nissan Sentra with license plate number 7XUX293.

Hayes said the victim awoke to find herself in a unusual motel and remembered falling asleep in the back of the Uber auto.

Due to the brazen nature of the alleged assault, cops suspect that there may be other victims, and are appealing to the public for any information.

Spence was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping to commit sexual assault.

According to police, the woman was on FaceTime with a friend when she noticed Ricci was driving the wrong way down a dead-end street.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police have arrested an Uber driver they say sexually assaulted a female passenger after she fell asleep during a ride in Los Angeles. Uber, Hayes said, has been cooperating with the police investigation and has suspended Spence from the service.

Last year, a West Hollywood woman sued Uber Technologies, alleging that the ride-hailing company's negligence led to her being raped by an Uber driver.

During the trip the driver allegedly stopped the vehicle and indecently assaulted the woman.

The incident allegedly occurred July 21, 2014, when the plaintiff took an Uber to her boyfriend's home after a night out. Uber says it conducts background screening checks on its drivers and rules out any applicants who have had felony convictions in the past seven years.

That's when the woman smacked his arm away, got out of the auto and ran.
