The Kremlin has reportedly chose to recall Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak, who has been described as the "most radioactive man in Washington".

Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak has been recalled to his home country, according to several news agencies based in America. United Nations officials have announced that Russian deputy foreign minister, Anatoly Antonov, will receive the position instead.

Kislyak's name has repeatedly come up during the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

Online news site BuzzFeed, citing three unnamed sources, reported Mr. Kislyak will leave Washington next month after a July 11 going-away party at Washington's St. Regis Hotel. The Trump administration has been receiving heat for meetings Kislya had with then-senator Jeff Sessions during the 2016 election.

According to Russian media reports cited by BuzzFeed and CNN, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Anatoly Antonov will replace Kislyak as us ambassador.

Trump, his campaign and Russian officials have denied any collusion took place between them. During Sessions' confirmation hearing, he failed to disclose at least two meetings with Kislyak, whom one USA -based diplomat responded "could use some time away".

Until the secret meetings were exposed, including one when Kushner proposed the creation of a secret communications backchannel with Moscow using facilities of the Russian embassy, the 66-year-old diplomat was hardly involved in any controversy, The New York Daily News noted. He didn't resign, but he did recuse himself from the Russian Federation probe. His first tour of duty as an envoy to the U.S. was between 1985 and 1989, where he specialized in arms control. Mr. Antonov, meanwhile, previously served as Russia's deputy minister of defense before being appointed to the foreign affairs ministry by Mr. Putin late a year ago.

Kislyak later served as Russia's ambassador to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and as Deputy Foreign Minister.

The US-Russia Business Council characterized Kislyak as a "reliable and thoughtful interlocutor for the American business community during his time in Washington".
