South Sudan, in fact, has replaced Syria as the country with the fastest-growing displacement of people in the world.

From beginning of the 2017 till to date, over 77,000 people have tried to cross the Mediterranean to Europe which is considered to be world's most unsafe routes and more than 2,000 people were reported to have died or gone missing.

Syria accounts for by far the largest share of total displaced persons worldwide, with a total of 12 million people displaced internally or living outside the country as refugees. This week, world leaders meet in Kampala for a Solidarity Summit on Refugees, where they are expected to pledge additional support to countries hosting large numbers of refugees.

"The displaced persons deserve to continue with their education and provided with economic support for safe living conditions". In 2016, the Bidi Bidi camp in Uganda grew so much it's now the largest refugee camp in the world, giving shelter to more than 270,000 South Sudanese.

Other countries with large numbers of Myanmar refugees included Thailand (102,600), Malaysia (87,000), and India (15,600), said the report.

The UN refugee chief voiced most alarm over the rapidly deteriorating situation which he said was now the world's "fastest growing refugee crisis and displacement crisis", and has swelled by 85 percent past year.

In Germany and Sweden, the population of refugees and asylum seekers grew to 1.3 million and 313,000 respectively past year.

Monday's report also pointed out that, despite huge focus on Europe's migrant crisis, it is poorer countries that host most of the world's refugees.

At the same time, the United Nations report has warned on this huge imbalance that can create instability in the host countries saying "the figure illustrates the need for countries and communities supporting refugees and other displaced people to be robustly resourced and supported". Refugees fall under the auspice of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees and are entitled to certain rights and basic assistance.

The newly-formed WRC convened for the first time in Geneva, Switzerland this week to consider the solutions to the global refugee crisis. "But, Lebanon, another one of the neighboring countries, is the country that has the highest per capita ratio compared to the local population in terms of the number of refugees".

Unaccompanied or separated children - mainly Afghans and Syrians - lodged some 75,000 applications in 70 countries in 2016. Some 37 countries together accepted 189,300 refugees for resettlement. "Some don't like to be called a refugee, while there are others who are not even aware that they are refugees", she said.
