Till was kidnapped and lynched in Money, Mississippi, in 1955 after the incident at the Bryant Grocery store.

A historical marker for Emmett Till has been vandalized, less than a year after receiving bullet holes in October. This is not the first time that a memorial of Till has been vandalized.

Just weeks prior, the marker was defaced after someone scratched it with a blunt tool.

Ever since his mother made a decision to have an open-casket funeral so that his brutalization was apparent for all to see, it has served as stark motivation for civil rights activists. "Vandals have been around since the beginning of time".

According to the AP, a tour group visiting the memorial in Money, Mississippi, found someone had removed panels which contained photos and information detailing Till's life, which was snuffed short by a group of White vigilantes. The teenager was later kidnapped, beaten and killed for allegedly offending Bryant. Thousands attended the funeral, and photographs of the disfigured body were widely published. An all-white jury acquitted Bryant's husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother, J.W. Milam, in the killing, but the two men later confessed in a paid interview with Look magazine. The men were acquitted of the crime by an all-white jury, but the incident outraged many in the USA and had a direct impact on starting the civil rights movement at the time. He further confirmed that the marker cost over $8,000 to create and that repairs will cost around $500 or more. In 2008, Till's accuser told Timothy Tyson - a professor at Duke University, who wrote the book "The Blood of Emmett Till", - that she fabricated significant portions of her story about her interaction with Till. But students from St. Louis tried to fix the sign by adding their own drawings and writings about Till, reports The Clarion-Ledger.

"These are easy targets, a low-risk outlet for racism", Dave Tell, who works on the Emmett Till Memory Project, told the newspaper.
