Trump Lashes Out At Investigators After Reports Of Obstruction Of Justice Inquiry

Sandy Vega | 23 Июня, 2017, 04:57

President Trump on Friday appeared to confirm on Twitter he was under investigation for firing FBI Director James Comey, but used his tweet to also take aim at the Justice Department official who recommended he do so.

Late Thursday, reports surfaced Vice President Mike Pence hired a lawyer to assist him through probes into whether there were ties between Trump's election campaign and Russian Federation. On Friday, the President tweeted he was under "investigation", which he called a "witch hunt" in another tweet.

Trump's tweets come after the top lawyer for his transition team warned the organization's officials to preserve all records and other materials related to the Russian Federation probe.

"That is a great, great team of complete professionals, so let's let him do his job", former independent counsel Kenneth Starr, who investigated President Bill Clinton in the 1990s, told ABC News.

"Mr. Trump's apparent reference to Mr. Rosenstein, who oversees the Russian Federation investigation because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from it, came just hours after an oddly worded statement from Mr. Rosenstein complaining about leaks in the case".

"I'm growing increasingly concerned that the President will attempt to fire not only Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating possible obstruction of justice, but also Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller", Sen.

It was confirmed by the White House that Mueller was among the candidates who Trump interviewed to replace Comey. The obstruction of Justice story also died as James Comey confirmed that no one, including President Trump, never asked him or tried to influence him to drop any investigation.

Those who have agreed to be interviewed include: Dan Coats, director of national intelligence; Mike Rogers, chief of the National Security Agency; and Richard Ledgett, who recently left his post as deputy to Rogers.

The website reported that Trump will sometimes interrupt conversations with associates to say, "I'm not under investigation".

In a series of statements on Twitter Thursday, Trump repeated his assertion that Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign is a "WITCH HUNT" based on the "phony" premise of possible collusion between Russia and a cadre of Trump campaign associates. "Witch Hunt", the President wrote in his tweet.

The president watches hours of TV news coverage every day - especially morning shows, which he sometimes records and watches in the evening - and complains about the reports nonstop.

In an address to the country, Trump struck a notably less partisan tone in response to his first major domestic crisis.

Top Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein expressed concern that Trump may try to fire both Mueller and Rosenstein, warning "he's in for a rude awakening" if he thinks he can shut down the investigation.
