Comey Agrees To Testify Before The Senate Intelligence Committee

Members of key congressional committees are pledging to proceed with aggressive investigations into Russia's meddling into the U.S. presidential election, including why former FBI director James Comey was ousted from his job.
The Washington Post, citing sources familiar with the matter, did not identify the senior Trump adviser except to say that the person of interest was close to Trump, a Republican who entered the White House four months ago.
He said he did not intend for the document to be a finding of misconduct or a "statement of reasons" to justify the firing, but he added: "I wrote it".
When Stephanopoulos asked whether Trump's comments seemed appropriate, McMaster responded: "As you know it's very hard to take a few lines, to take a paragraph out of what are what appear to be notes of that meeting".
"Congress' ability to conduct investigations of all things Russian Federation has been severely limited", said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of SC. "He was insane, a real nut job", Mr Trump said, according to the document, which was read to The New York Times by a USA official.
The Timesreport added to the impression given by Trump himself in a television interview last week in which he said the Russian Federation issue was a factor in firing Comey.
Rosenstein confirmed to lawmakers in briefings this week that the President already planned to remove Comey when he wrote his memo detailing the Federal Bureau of Investigation director's alleged transgressions.
Trott says Rosenstein answered that he didn't want to interfere with the independent investigation that will now be run by former FBI chief Robert Mueller.
He'd previously said he might announce his nominee before he left.
Comey's firing prompted anger from congressional Democrats who accused Trump of wanting to quash the investigation into his campaign's possible collusion with Russian Federation.
Mr Trump, a Republican, has long bristled at the notion that Russian Federation played any role in his November election victory, and has denied any collusion between his campaign and Moscow. Trump has insisted at times that the decision was his alone, but he also has pointed - as recently as Thursday - to the "very strong" recommendation from Rosenstein.
The May 10 meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak came one day after Trump abruptly fired Comey, which the White House argued at first was because of a memo from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein pointing to Comey's mismanagement of the investigation into Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's private email server.
And Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, who had been considered a contender for FBI director but removed himself from the running, said he thought senators were taking the investigation "enormously seriously". "That would be not just problematic, it would be obviously a potential obstruction of justice that people have to make a decision on", Rubio said.
The question over the need for a special prosecutor consumed Washington this week - along with other Trump-related scandals - even as congressional leaders tried to shift reporters' focus to other matters such as healthcare.
