They approved the $18.7 million budget for the 2017-18 school year by an unofficial count of 416 for and 142 against.

Sagaponack voters unanimously passed the school's $1.7 million budget proposal, with 19 votes for and none against.

In Pembroke, a budget of 22-million dollars goes before voters, a two percent increase in the tax levy. Under a new millage rate of 29.71 mills, a 1.89 percent tax increase would equate to an additional $74 a year in real estate property taxes for the median $135,000 home assessment.

The board also recognized district secretary and bookkeeper DiAnn Adolph, who received the 2016-17 Illinois Principals Association Northwest Illinois Leadership Award for Non-certified Support Personnel, a new category this year. Heather Welch received 694 votes; Alan Barone drew 67.

Just under 94% of registered voters in New Rochelle did not vote to support the budget.

Seats for three members to the nine-member Board of Education were on the ballot, with only two declared candidates. However, voters will be asked in a separate proposition to allow the district to replenish the fund with end-of-year surpluses for four more years, finishing out the fund's 10-year term.

"The federal budget has not been passed yet, but it's my understanding we will receive federal tax funds for the '17-'18 year", Bodamer said.

"To be honest with you, for people who look at property values, there is a lot of correlation between how well a school district does, and it does have, I think, some sort of effect on property value".

Glenn Niles and Kerry Cunningham, both running unopposed, were elected to the Brewster School Board while Haldane school trustee Peggy Clements ran unopposed as did Joseph Ferraro in Putnam Valley and Diana Swinburne and Courtney McCarthy in Garrison. The budget increases year-over-year spending by 2.12 percent.

Board member JulieMarie Shepherd argued that the title of the resolution - "A resolution to keep Aurora Public Schools a safe and inclusive school community" - was too broad and made it sound like the resolution helped all students, when it doesn't, she said.

In addition to K-8 school taxes, a property owner in Howell also pays municipal taxes, Freehold Regional High School District taxes, Monmouth County taxes, a fire district tax and other assessments.

Superintendent Robinson was happy with the budget and the bus proposition results.

The district had proposed a budget of $9,750,912 - a 0.85 percent increase.

In Northville Public Library news, the budget passed with 244 yes votes over 132 nays.

The Southwestern Central School District proposed a 2017-18 budget of $27,366,108 - a 16.22 percent increase from 2007-08. The vote was 179 to 25.

That would leave the system with a budget deficit of $1.2 million, which it would cover by dipping into its fund balance.

This exceeds the tax cap by a little more than 2 percent, which required at least 60 percent approval in order to pass.

The resolution, proposed and written by a group of parents and community members, largely reaffirms district policies for dealing with federal immigration enforcement actions.
