A life of service has had an impact of the prince, who's stepping down from public engagements.

The Duke of Edinburgh has maintained a vigorous public schedule despite suffering from a heart disease and other ailments in recent years.

Prince Philip will stand down from his royal duties in the autumn, Buckingham Palace has confirmed, ending feverish speculation after an entire staff meeting was called late last night.

Thereafter, The Duke will not be accepting new invitation for visits and engagements, although he may choose to attend certain public.

The palace released a statement on their social media saying the Queen has given her husband her "full support" in this decision.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth leaves with Prince Philip after a service of thanksgiving for her 90th birthday at St Paul's Cathedral in London, Britain, June 10, 2016.

On Thursday morning in England, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, appeared alongside his wife, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in what will be one of his final official public appearances.

In a statement on Thursday May offered the country's "deepest gratitude and good wishes" to Philip on his retirement.

"He's been an icon for so long, and I've really admired him and it saddens me in a way", said Grace Marie, who said she understood his decision. The headline suggests that the tabloid, as is probably typical of most newspapers, has copy reporting the duke's death on standby-understandable, given his advanced age at 95 years old.

The Queen's consort will retire from royal engagements in the autumn after more than 65 years supporting the Queen in her role as head of state and attending events for his own charities and organisations. He gave up a successful naval career to support her when she became queen in 1952. He has spent seven decades in the public spotlight, and he and the queen will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in November.
