President Donald Trump is mulling moving the USA embassy in Israel from its current location in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as soon as next week, a move which is virtually certain to enrage Palestinians and other regional governments, CNN reported on Monday. Additionally, he all but ignores the fact that the Palestinian territories are governed by terrorists and terror-supporting regimes, while Israel is a free state and one of the few stable, reliable American allies in the Middle East.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday said he will seek the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's offices in reaching a solution to the Palestinian issue which will help in the fight against terrorism in that part of the world. "On the contrary, it would advance it by correcting an historical injustice and by shattering the Palestinian fantasy that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel", Netanyahu said this morning.

Israel occupied east Jerusalem in 1967 and later annexed it in a move never recognised by the global community.

Netanyahu's office sent reporters a fact sheet of quotes on the prime minister's hope for a USA embassy in Jerusalem and had this to say about Powell: "The claims posted by a Fox News correspondent are false". He has yet to make any concrete moves toward carrying out that promise.

It is not clear who, exactly, the "senior American official" was, but Israel's Ha'aretz identified the culpable parties as "diplomats stationed at the USA consulate in Jerusalem". Lovatt says Trump will be aiming to get Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to sit down with Abbas to discuss a peace deal later in the summer as the best possible outcome from the talks.

A source close to the preparations team in Israel told Channel 2 that the statements made by the White House official were received with utter shock by Netanyahu's team. The statement released by the office included a transcript from Netanyahu's meeting with Trump in Washington which took place this February, acting as proof that the report provided by Powell was false.

Abbas said "it's about time for Israel to end its occupation of our people and our land" - a reference to Jewish settlement building in the West Bank. He said that Trump also shared with his Palestinian guests that he will continue to resist settlement expansion.

"We look forward to receiving President Trump and we want to work with you and with the president these coming years to strengthen our great alliance".

Adelson, who cut a $5 million check to President Donald Trump's inauguration, was miffed that Tillerson remained noncommittal about moving the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem during his appearance on "Meet The Press" on Sunday.
