AAP open to take call on leadership change: Kumar Vishwas

Ellis Copeland | 01 May, 2017, 15:35

He alleged that the party seniors take decisions behind closed doors and even the appointment of labour minister Gopal Rai as the Delhi convener on Thursday was taken without any discussion with other party members.

Speaking exclusively to India TV, the poet-politician, who has often taken to Twitter to launch veiled attacks purportedly aimed at his own party, today said that the AAP's loss in the recent Punjab Assembly elections was because the party had failed to live up to the faith that the people had put in it.

AAP's Delhi unit convenor, Dilip Pandey, was the first wicket to fall. He also brushed aside the contention that AAP lost elections repeatedly because of EVM tampering, something that Kejriwal has left no stone unturned to blame for the party's poor performance recently.

Reacting to poll results, senior BJP leader and Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said, the result is a message for AAP to give up negative politics and work for constructive politics.

He also slammed the leadership for "behaving like a "mohalla" (local) cricket team", and said AAP had committed a "historic blunder" in Punjab with regard to the overall electoral strategy.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the AAP leader claimed, will try its level best to wean them away but they will have to remain united.

Minister Hussain turned out to be the saving grace for the AAP with two of three wards in his constituency Ballimaran going to his party with the third won by Congress.

"Instead of working for Delhi, he started thinking about (capturing power in) Punjab and Goa".

The AAP's rout comes more than two years after the Delhi Assembly Elections when the fledgling political outfit humiliated the BJP winning 67 of the 70 Delhi Assembly polls when it got a huge 54 percent of the votes.

"The party would now be under tremendous pressure to keep its MLAs united, as they may opt for other options seeing no bright future for AAP".

Political analyst Neerja Chowdhury termed the civic poll results as a "big blow" to the AAP.

Not all party members or former party members thought EVMs were to blame. He said he would continue as a dedicated Congress worker but would not take any party positions for the next one year. Union Sports Minister and BJP leader Vijay Goel said the mandate has proven the credibility of the work Prime Minister Modi has done in the past three years.

"Election Commission should institute a probe for the EVMs", he said, adding: "Even if we don't trust EVMs, we must trust the Election Commission".

He said one can not write off the AAP as in the past four years all that the party has achieved was not less.
