The ban was a retaliatory move past year, after the Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association blocked Pakistani cine artists from working in India, following a terror attack on an Indian Army camp.

The Uri attacks of September 2016 increased the political tension between India and Pakistan.

In a recent interview with Mobashir Hasan, Pakistan's Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) head, told IANS: "Yes, the board unanimously chose to skip two scenes". It was apparently after this request that Aamir Khan decided not to release the film in Pakistan. Given this and also since he is not willing to chop off the frame where the Tricolor flutters in glory, "Dangal" won't see clearance by the Censor Board of that country.

Since both the acts are in context of Geeta's victory and highlights India's nationalistic sentiment, without any reference to Pakistan whatsoever, Aamir found the demands from across the border unreasonable. Aamir, who is seen playing the lead role of Mahavir Phogat, has gotten apprehensive about the release of the movie in Pakistan.

After listening to their unreasonable demands, Aamir has decided that he would not release Dangal, which amassed Rs 385 crore at the Indian box office, in Pakistan. "If it released in Pakistan, Dangal would have probably made Rs 10 to 12 crore, which it won't now and there will be piracy too but it was a stand that we had to take", the spokesperson added.
